February and March are tough months in our home. Especially leap years. You see 16 years ago on the 29th of February, our first kiddo was born. Mattie Grace would be begging for her license this week! Imagine that!? Just a few years later, our little guy, Noah Dylan was born. They’d both be teens in high school right now.
Our home echoes with an erie absence of voices of which we become acutely aware this time of year. Of course the sound of pups in the house helps to fill the silence, but I’m afraid nothing quite replaces what might have been.
I’m reminded of Grace every February. Grace which carries us through the tough times. Grace which makes bearing the impossible possible. Grace which assures us we’ll see both kiddos again! Grace. Nothing quite like it.
If you have a chance this week and over the next few, lift up my beautiful bride. The absence is tough. God’s Grace and great friends make it bearable.
I’m reminded of God’s unfailing love for us. If one ever understood both love and loss it is my God! Paul had this to say about God’s love.
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.” (Romans 8:38 NLT)
