We’ve been thinking through our purpose at River lately and may I say, I am more committed to this vision than ever before! Just a few weeks ago, we finished our Core Value Series at River. C.A.R.G.O – what is it and what does it mean? Here’s the Cliff Notes Version from that series.

Core Values – C.A.R.G.O.

We Live in Community.
We need each other!  In fact, after God created Adam he realized that it was not good for man to live alone.  (Genesis 1:18). You and I are created to live in Community.  When Jesus was asked which of all the commandments was greatest he replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-38)  We believe Community is important.  At River, we stress Small Groups.  We really hope you’ll get plugged into one as soon as you can!

We are a people of Action.
Often we talk about how nice it would be to take action when someone is in need, yet more time is spent planning the process than rendering aid.  At River of Leland we are a people of Action. Leviticus 25:35, Deuteronomy 15:11 and many others call us to be generous!  James 2:20 calls us to Action as we are reminded that faith without works is dead!  Together we will be the hands and feet of Christ.

We are Relevant in Christ.
The love, healing, grace, mercy, forgiveness and acceptance of Christ will always be Relevant to the hurting.  At River of Leland, it is our goal to carry Christ to the world.  Jesus was once asked how one might make it to heaven.  His answer, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  (John 14:6 NIV)  Christ is the answer.  In Him we are Relevant.

We are Grounded in Biblical Truth.
Jesus taught about the importance of building on a solid foundation. (Matthew 7:14-27)  When tough times come your way will you find  your foundation to be unshakeable?  At River of Leland we have faith in our foundation.  Hebrews 11:1speaks of Faith in God being the fundamental truth, the firm foundation under everything we believe. How is your Foundation?

We live in a constant state of Overflow.
A pond which has no fresh water coming in or going out will quickly become stagnant.  A lot of times, our lives become just as stagnant. We fill up with the mess of the world and may occasionally pour in a little “church”.  At River of Leland, we want to live abundantly.  We want to live lives like giant waterfalls along mountain rivers.  We have fresh life to pour into the lives of those around us. Are you ready to tap into the Overflow!  (John 10:10)
